Mr. Newkirk is Sr. Vice President of Global Sourcing and Risk Management for S&D Coffee and Tea where he is responsible for commodities procurement and quality systems, risk management, corporate social responsibility, and contract manufacturing as well as strategic leadership over sustainable supply chain programming.
He is Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Coffee Quality Institute, and also is on the CEO Management Committee of Tea 2030, a multi-sectorial precompetitive group working to solve sustainability issues in global tea production. Mr. Newkirk also serves on the Board of Directors and as Finance Committee chair for Shelter for Life, an international development NGO with operations in Asia and Africa.
Previously, Mr. Newkirk was Sr. Manager Global Commodities and Responsible Sourcing for The Hershey Company where he led the cocoa and dairy procurement teams and established global sourcing practices for the company. In this role, Mr. Newkirk served as an Executive Committee member to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Cocoa Livelihoods Program and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture’s Sustainable Tree Crops Program. He also worked extensively with the World Cocoa Foundation, the Dutch Sustainability Initiative (IDH), and Round Table on Sustainable Palm, other NGOs and for-profit development companies to develop comprehensive strategies for implementing USAID’s Feed the Future initiative and with African governments on the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Program (CAADP).
