How long have you been a CQI In-Country Partner (ICP)?

Since 2018

What does it mean to your company/organization to be an ICP?

Being an ICP is an important service that AMCCE performs for the coffee industry in Mexico. We strongly believe that working with CQI in education and coffee certification provides the coffee sector in Mexico a foundation to standardize and improve our coffee quality and strengthen the specialty coffee market.

Provide a summary of what your company/organization accomplishes and include mission if applicable:

AMCCE is a non-profit based in Mexico City who's objectives are: to promote the growth of the specialty coffee community in Mexico through training, certification and information, to develop barista and roaster competitions, and to connect all of the different members of the coffee chain (from producer to end consumer) in order to understand and support their particular needs.

What is your relationship with CQI/the Q Program?

We certify coffee lots and organize the Q Coffee certification in Mexico. Our staff are Q Grader certified and two of them are Assistant Instructors. We are also organizing Q Processing Level 1 courses in Mexico.

What do you think are the opportunities of CQI's Q Coffees program?

There is a wide universe of opportunities for the Q Coffees program, especially in developing a controlled and standardized system for production with metric analysis of coffee quality and the impact of new varieties. The robusta program can be a big help in the future when finding solutions to climate change and diversification. On the other hand, the growth in demand of coffees that use different processing methods makes CQI's role in developing standardized methodology and research ever more important. We need to involve growers. There is no sense in having so many Q Graders without the involvement of those technical cuppers in the production sites.

What do you think are the benefits of being a CQI ICP?

The main benefit is to collaborate with one of the most important organizations that improves quality and provides the framework for a better living to all of those that love and live coffee. We want to be part of the specialty movement and to work with an organization that is doing research and keeps innovating in coffee and spreading trends and knowledge with a scientific background. From out side, AMCCE can be an important ally of CQI, giving support and continuity to all of its trainings, programs, and initiatives being developed.

Anything else you'd like to add?

The leadership of CQI comes not only from the programs but also from the people involved. They are brilliant, humble and comprising of a specialty community of people that run all the programs and operations. We feel like we are part of a community of professionals, and we are very proud to work with the Q Graders, Instructors, Coffee Corps Volunteers, and growers.

What do you think could be done to improve / increase Q Coffees in the market?

To Implement a system to verify the existence of coffee lots and more marketing about the Q Certification program.

Does your company benefit from hosting Q Evaluations as an ICP? If so, how?

Yes, we offer Q Graders the opportunity to Calibrate.

How does your organization benefit from being an ICP?

We share with CQI the vision and activities that improve coffee quality.
