According to USDA, in 2019-2020, Vietnam’s coffee reserves are at a quite high level.According to the forecasts, the reserve will increase to 4.6 million bags in 2019-2020 and 5.5million bags in 2020-2021. The reason is that Vietnamese coffee is less competitive than that of Brazil and other countries, leading to lower exports, particularly in the period of 2019-2020. Thus, the reserve is higher. In addition, Vietnamese farmers do not have good commercial connection and there are not many units to guide and orient the production of high-quality coffee so that they may study or boldly invest in their coffee. Therefore, they have to sell with low price or they are unwilling to sell, leading to difficulty in buying coffee for export by traders and exporters. Vietnam is the second largest coffee producer in the world, but mostly raw materials are exported.
Currently, the demand for high-quality coffee in the world has increased sharply. In Vietnam, this demand is also being noticed and increased strongly in recent times. Many farmers and cooperatives in the Central Highlands provinces have started to invest and learn to keep pace with the demand for high-quality international coffee. For above reasons, Vietnamese coffee farmers need CQI inspection for their coffee in order to improve quality and sell with better prices, ensuring their lives, work and preservation of coffee 12 of 15 area. They shall not cut down the coffee area for other crops due to low prices. More ICPs are needed in Vietnam to support coffee farmers and trading partners.
