CQI’s QE Instructors are not only accomplished Q Graders themselves, but they also continue to keep their sensory and education skills sharp! Every two years, our QE Instructors meet at a CQI Community of Practice (CoP) event to calibrate their cuppings abilities, continue to develop their adult education skills and provide invaluable feedback on their experiences teaching the QE Program around the world. From the 7th to the 17th of March, CQI hosted three separate CoP events for our Q Instructors and Assistant Instructors in Mexico City at the lab of our wonderful In-Country Partner, AMCCE.
Trish Rothgeb, CQI Quality Evaluation Specialist, led the workshops, supported by colleagues - Emma Sage, Laura Ruleman and Ben Bicknell - from the CQI Education team. Following on from our December 2022 CoP event in Taiwan, this was once again a large, post-COVID gathering with instructors from over 25 countries representing! As an organization committed to building a common language of coffee quality in all parts of the world and in all parts of the supply chain, it was exciting for CQI to have such diverse representation talking coffee together.
While ensuring our instructors are all calibrated in their assessment of coffees, an equally important element of these events is to offer a forum for our valued educators to provide ideas and feedback on how we can continue to strengthen the quality and relevancy of our Q program in coffee communities throughout the world. And what a great collection of information we received! We're so thankful to hear from this gathering of coffee professionals and are looking forward to collaborating with them to ensure the Q Grader certification is the leading standard for coffee assessment.
