Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) Is pleased to announce that T.J. Ryan has joined the organization as Director of Mission Engagement. The industry veteran brings experience in partnerships and on-ground facilitation.
“This is a new role at CQI, and I can’t think of anyone better to fill it,” said CEO of CQI Michael Sheridan. “T.J. is a proven leader with decades of experience in coffee communities around the world. He knows the difference that quality can make in the lives of the people who produce coffee because he has seen it first-hand, working in the field with CQI to help connect quality-focused coffee producers to markets in ways that have lasting impact."
Ryan was most recently with ACDI/VOCA, and coffee people may know him from his role as Chief of Party of the PhilCAFE project in the Philippines. That effort improved quality and increased competitiveness in the region. Ryan also served there as ACDI/VOCA Managing Director of Specialty Crops, responsible for designing and implementing strategies, programming options, and proposals for agribusiness projects in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. He holds an MBA from the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University.
“Working with Coffee Quality Institute at this time is really exciting," offered Ryan. "I’m looking forward to using my experience in new ways and to utilize this global platform to serve coffee communities with greater impact.”
The Director of Mission Engagement is responsible for leading CQI’s cross-sector engagement, mobilizing and allocating resources to advance its mission, and monitoring and evaluating its impact. This includes developing and managing relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including private-sector investors, public-sector leaders, project donors, academic and research institutions, and allied organizations.
